Jeju Island is seeing a rise in Chinese and other Greater China visitors seeking immersive, cultural and active experiences rather than just shopping. At the Jeju Olle walking festival, many Chinese hikers joined locals to enjoy long coastal trails and traditional performances; interest in completing 100 km and even the full 437 km Olle routes has grown since last year. Separately, “baduk” (Go) tourism—packages that include attending the Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance Baduk Cup, lessons with Korean professional players, and live commentary in Chinese—has attracted families and beginners, turning Go into a cultural bridge. Jeju Olle plans multilingual mobile services next year to better serve these visitors.
