The 6th Hoban Music Festival presents 'The Last Snowman,' a hybrid choral music drama combining literature, music and theater. Actor Choi Young-joon will deliver narrated recitation while the Chuncheon City Choir, conducted by Choi Sang-yun, provides rich choral textures. Based on poet Choi Seung-ho’s work, the snowman symbolizes a dying person or the planet’s last guardian who melts away but ultimately longs for spring. Composer Choi Woo-jung’s piece spans 12 scenes, blending spoken word, solo and ensemble singing and wordless vocalizations to heighten dramatic impact. Rehearsals showed the actor balancing moments of clash and harmony with the choir, producing powerful emotional waves—especially during a recitation of the poet’s ‘Snowman Suicide Case.’ Choi Young-joon described the project as an intriguing, controlled collaboration that preserves each performer’s style while allowing expressive collisions. The concert is on the 25th at 7:30 PM at Chuncheon Culture & Arts Center; tickets available via Ticketlink until the 21st or at the door. (Hoban Music Festival)
