Freshwater: As winter approaches, carp (붕어) feeding activity picked up. Anglers at Changnyeong’s Jangcheokji and Beongae Swamp caught 2–5 carp each, 24–34 cm. Yeonhwaji produced 5–8 carp per angler, 16–32 cm. Various canals in Changnyeong had 20–35 cm fish in similar numbers. In Uiseong, Namdaecheon produced several large carp 32–39 cm, and smaller ponds yielded many 25–29 cm fish. Busan’s Gangseo canals also showed steady carp results. Sea: East coast conditions were favorable all week, attracting many anglers despite cool weather. Sokcho’s cod jigging (타이라바) yielded large cod up to 1.4 m and many 70–80 cm fish. Off Yeongdeok rocky shores, good-sized spotted (patterned) cuttlefish (무늬오징어) were abundant, with occasional individuals over 1 kg. Goseong’s Geojin area also saw quality cuttlefish. Pohang night octopus fishing produced octopus over 1 kg. Night “tip-run” cuttlefish trips gave satisfying size and numbers. Around Busan’s Nam- and Buk-Hyeongje islands, red seabream (참돔) and amberjack (부시리, 방어) bites were frequent; Taejongdae produced many 40–60 cm red seabream. Notably, Busan’s octopus fishing was exciting with frequent >1 kg catches. Gadukdo and breakwaters had active autumn black porgy (감성돔) fishing; Geoje’s Yangjiam rocks produced ~40 cm black porgy. Across Geoje, anglers typically caught 1–4 cuttlefish each. Boat jigging brought many 60 cm–1 m amberjack and several large tuna species. Conversely, Tongyeong hairtail fishing was generally slow. On islands like Chubongdo, Yongchodo and Bijindo, anglers landed 45–53 cm black porgy; Yokjido produced many 25–35 cm black porgy and some 48–58 cm specimens at well-known spots. Small red seabream and 400–800 g cuttlefish were also reported in numbers. In Sacheon’s distant waters near Dumido and the inner rocky shorelines, 40–50 cm black porgy and steady mixed catches of black porgy and red seabream were common around the Geumo Islands.
