Victor Cho, a sculptor from Yeongwol, presents his 14th solo exhibition “Stone Change” at Chuncheon Museum through today. Departing from his previous earth and casting works, Cho shows about 40 stone sculptures that emphasize the material’s weight, texture and accumulated time. He returned to basic hand tools and began carving river-found stones, letting the rock’s natural properties dictate simple, unique forms rather than adding color or polishing. The exhibition includes the artist’s signature motif “Bau” (guardian stone / threshold stone), made both in finely finished marble and in rougher river stones that convey stronger individuality. Works in local Jeongseon ungi-seok (a regional stone) highlight warm, wood-like surfaces achieved by grinding and special coatings, expanding viewers’ perception of stone’s tactile qualities.
