Seoul-based exhibition “Space of Healing” by sculptor Park Eun-sun (60) showcases her signature broken-stone sculptures—stacked, striped forms with central cracks that symbolize relief, renewal and the contrast of hatred and love. Trained in Pietrasanta, Italy, Park developed the cracked-stone motif after smashing a slab early in her career and finding a sense of release; she now polishes durable granite for outdoor works and uses marble for indoor pieces. New works born from the COVID-19 period include suspended, ball-like marble pieces that collide gently to produce sound and pieces with internal LED lights to convey hope. A flowerpot-shaped work reflects renewed appreciation for family during lockdown. For the first time she also presents paintings made by casting shadows of her sculptures onto canvas and layering paint and ink to translate her three-dimensional “Infinity (무한 기둥)” series into two dimensions. Park has opened museums bearing her name in Italy and plans an “Infinity Museum” on Jaeun Island (자은도) in Sinan, designed by Mario Botta. The exhibition runs through Jan 25.
