The 8th Pyeongchang Highland Kimjang Festival drew 60,000 visitors from Nov 5–17 at Jinbu Sports Park and achieved a record 3 billion won (about $2.3M) in sales. Organizers credited the success to premium Pyeongchang highland cabbage, West Sea (Seohae) salt, and traditional mountain village seasonings, along with over a decade of recipe refinement. The festival also gained official backing for kimchi industry promotion: Pyeongchang passed a Kimchi Industry Promotion ordinance and designated Nov 11 as “Kimjang Day” (김장의 날). Officials said the event helps preserve kimjang (communal kimchi-making) culture through hands-on programs and plans to expand local-product content and kimjang experiences.
