South Korea has successfully added "kimchi cabbage" to the international food standard for kimchi ingredients, alongside existing terms like "Chinese cabbage" and the U.S. term "Napa cabbage." The change was approved at the 48th Codex Alimentarius Commission meeting in Rome, following a South Korean proposal. By registering "kimchi cabbage," officials aim to clarify that the main ingredient of kimchi is a distinct product associated with Korean cuisine, reducing misunderstandings that kimchi is Chinese in origin.
