South Korea’s Ministry of Agriculture and the Korean Food Promotion Institute designated seven overseas restaurants as 'Excellent Korean Restaurants', bringing the total to 23. New additions include Naeum (Singapore), Daedo Sikdang (Los Angeles), and Soon Grill Champs-Élysées (Paris). The designation evaluates food quality, service, hygiene, and use of Korean ingredients. Naeum in Singapore uses domestic ingredients to create creative dishes like tomato dongchimi (radish water kimchi), buckwheat noodles, and jugak (traditional rice cake dishes) and has received Michelin recognition. In LA, Daedo Sikdang and Baroo were recognized for reproducing classic Korean barbecue (gogi-gui) dishes such as yangnyeom galbi (marinated short ribs), bulgogi, and other Korean favorites; Baroo also modernizes fermentation-based dishes like lobster doenjang (fermented soybean paste) preparations. Paris’s Soon Grill Champs-Élysées was named for its premium Korean-style barbecue and wide Korean menu offerings. Designated restaurants receive promotional support, purchasing assistance for ingredients and tableware, and other benefits. The ministry aims to expand the program to 100 overseas restaurants by 2030 to boost K-food competitiveness and exports.
