Pohang’s landmark art installation Spacewalk celebrated its 4th anniversary. Opened on November 18, 2021, and donated to the city by POSCO after a 2-year, 7-month project, the large-scale interactive sculpture was created by German-born artists Heike Mutter and Ulrich Genth. The piece features 717 steps, weighs 317 tons, and was engineered to withstand a magnitude 6.3 earthquake. To date it has drawn about 3.62 million visitors and is approaching 4 million; the city holds events and gives souvenirs each time visitor counts pass major milestones. The structure has become a key tourist attraction at Hwanho Park and is illuminated at night, offering striking sunrise and sunset views.
