LG Arts Center will present “Reading Studio: Directors Edition” from Oct 27 to Nov 6, featuring four notable South Korean theatre directors — Lee Jun-woo, Boo Sae-rom, Kim Jung, and Kim Yeon-min — in a series of staged readings (낭독공연). The program spans works from ancient Greek tragedy to contemporary Japanese and British playwrights, aiming to invite audiences into the creative process rather than only showing finished productions. Lee Jun-woo opens with a stage adaptation of the Japanese mystery “White Impulse” (based on writer Katsushiro O), exploring hidden human impulses and moral conflict. Boo Sae-rom adapts Sophocles’ Oedipus into a modern rendering focused on storytelling and concentrated emotional texture. Kim Jung stages Yûji Sakamoto’s “Again, Here?” (a playwright better known for film/drama), portraying bittersweet, cyclical everyday lives. Kim Yeon-min selects Tom Stoppard’s “Leopoldstadt,” a personal family chronicle set in Vienna from 1899–1955 that reflects Stoppard’s Jewish heritage. This is LG Arts Center’s first dedicated reading-series; it signals the venue’s move toward stronger in-house and co-productions after relocating to Magok and its intent to deepen collaboration with domestic directors.
