Chinese automaker BYD opened an all-terrain test circuit in Zhengzhou to demonstrate vehicle durability and advanced EV features. The venue includes a Guinness-certified 30m sand dune (made from Inner Mongolia sand) for steep-climb tests; the Yangwang U8 climbed the 28° slope in 8 seconds, though a front wheelcap came loose on descent. A water zone lets vehicles traverse up to 1.5m depth at about 3 km/h using an emergency buoyancy mode intended to buy survival time in floods (up to 30 minutes). On the 1.785 km main track, the Yangwang U9 supercar delivered its claimed 0–100 km/h acceleration in 2.3 seconds, showcasing strong electric power but still some motion-sickness from instant torque and regen braking. A simulated ice section highlighted electronic stability control (ESC) interventions, and intelligent parking demos showed remote and tight-space parallel parking with unique rear-wheel crossing maneuvers. BYD plans more off-road experience centers to shift from showing technology to letting customers directly try it.
