A Joseon-era Buddhist painting called 'Siwangdo' (Ten Kings of the Underworld) that is believed to have been taken to the United States during the Korean War has been returned to Sinheungsa temple in Sokcho after about 70 years. The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York announced it will repatriate the 1798 work. Siwangdo depicts the ten judges (the Ten Kings) who preside over souls in the afterlife, reflecting Buddhist views of the afterlife.
