Despite the start of winter (입동) passing more than a week ago, Gangwon Province’s four major national parks—Seoraksan, Odaesan, Chiaksan, and Taebaeksan—drew about 22,000 visitors in a single day as people enjoyed late-autumn hiking and the last fall foliage. Odaesan recorded roughly 11,000 visitors, Seoraksan nearly 6,000 (about 7,000 including the Baekdam area), Chiaksan about 4,700, and Taebaeksan around 900 by late afternoon. Popular cable-car sites also saw strong demand: the Gariwangsan cable car in Jeongseon, built for the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics, carried over 800 riders that day. Park officials said crowds came to savor the remaining autumn colors despite colder weather.
