Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance introduced a new tourism program on Jeju island centered around the Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance Cup (a major international Go/baduk tournament) to mark the event’s 30th anniversary. About 80 Chinese visitors attended a special two-day ‘Go special program’ at Phoenix Island, Seogwipo, which offered more than passive spectating: participants joined teaching games with professional players (pro players), listened to live game commentary in Chinese by Kim Hyun-hwan 8-dan and Kim Nuri 5-dan, and watched the finals between Chinese professionals. The Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) co-organized the program to blend corporate sports events with tourism content and deepen Korea–China cultural exchange. A kids’ area inside Phoenix Island ran Go experience booths led by young pros, introducing children to basic play and strategy, attracting family visitors. Organizers said the event demonstrated Jeju’s potential as a new destination for baduk-themed tourism and hoped to expand similar Go-tourism linkages in the future.
