A major fire tore through the E-Land Fashion logistics center in Pungse-myeon, Cheonan, on the morning of the 15th, leaving the 19.9-hectare (equivalent to 27 soccer fields) warehouse virtually destroyed. Firefighters continue operations with about 150 personnel and roughly 80 fire vehicles and suppression units, using high-volume water curtains from outside because parts of the building have collapsed and interior entry is unsafe. The center, opened in 2014 and handling up to 5,000 boxes daily and 4–5 million boxes annually, reportedly stored over 11 million items of clothing and shoes, most of which were heavily damaged or lost. Authorities raised response levels quickly after the 6:08 a.m. ignition and largely contained the main flames after about 9.5 hours; no casualties were reported. Investigators expect challenges determining the cause since structural collapse and intense heat severely damaged the site. (myeon: an administrative township-level division)
