Andar, South Korea’s top athleisure brand, distanced itself after the husband of its founder was jailed for transferring about 23.8 million KRW to a hacker linked to North Korea. The company stated that founder Shin Aeryeon and her husband Oh Dae-hyun resigned from all roles in 2021 and no longer hold any shares; the brand was fully acquired by Eco Marketing and is run by professional management. Oh was convicted under the National Security Act for long-term contact with a North Korean-affiliated hacker known as “Eric” (Oh Seong-hyuk) and for sending money to a Chinese account in exchange for illegal hacking tools, including an ‘S-file’ used to bypass game security for illegal private servers of the game Lineage. The hacker group is tied to the Workers’ Party’s Room 39 and involved in cyber-attack capabilities. Andar warned it will take legal action against misuse of its logo, store images, or models to protect brand value.
