Jinrye Ceramic Theme Street (진례도자테마거리), near Clayarch Gimhae Museum (클레이아크김해미술관), showcases diverse ceramic tile murals that enliven old walls. The 645m street features themed sections—Classical Mural Street (recreating genre paintings by artists like Kim Hong-do and Shin Yun-bok), Tile Mural Street (a long stretch with large works by 24 local pottery studios, process scenes, and trick-art photo zones), Fragrance Mural Street, and Nature Mural Street. Ceramic tiles have been used in architecture since ancient times (e.g., the Ishtar Gate of Babylon and Portugal’s azulejo tiles). In Korea, ceramic murals also appear in public projects such as the large Joseon procession tile mural along Cheonggyecheon.
