The Lee Kun-hee collection’s first overseas exhibition, “Korean Treasures: Collecting, Caring, Sharing,” opened at the National Museum of Asian Art in Washington, D.C., on the 15th after a one-week delay due to a U.S. government shutdown. The show brings together about 330 works—including 7 national treasures and 15 treasures—drawn from the National Museum of Korea (297 works) and the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (24 works). Highlights range from Gyeomjae Jeongseon’s landscape Inwangjesaekdo and traditional chaekkado (scholars’ study still-life) to modern masterpieces like Kim Whanki’s Sanwoollim and Park Soo-keun’s Nongak. Important Buddhist sculptures, illuminated sutras, and representative celadon and white porcelain vessels are also included. The exhibition will travel to the Art Institute of Chicago (March–July) and the British Museum in London (Sept–Jan 2027). The presentation underscores Korea’s artistic legacy and aims to share K-culture’s creative heritage with global audiences; museum merchandise inspired by works (fan, keyrings, miniatures) is also offered.
