Ecuador’s ambassador to Korea highlights the South American country as a “young nation” with about 60% of its population under 40, offering opportunities driven by a family-centered culture. Historically peaceful but recently challenged by international drug trafficking, Ecuador is focusing on security. The country’s four distinct travel regions include sunny Pacific beaches like Los Frailes, snow-capped highlands, the Amazon, and the unique Galapagos Islands (Galápagos) famed for tame wildlife. Quito, the capital, is a UNESCO-designated cultural heritage city with well-preserved colonial and indigenous architecture. Ecuadorian cuisine is gaining global recognition—Quito’s Nuema restaurant made the World’s 50 Best list in 2025—and local ceviche and pork dishes are highlighted as appealing to Korean tastes. There are no direct passenger flights from Korea yet, but efforts to open an Incheon–Quito cargo route could pave the way for tourist flights as early as next year. Ecuador’s mild, two-season climate (wet and dry) makes it suitable for travel year-round; Quito’s weather is likened to autumn in Seoul. The ambassador and his family enjoy living in Korea and plan cultural and culinary events to promote Ecuador.
