The touring exhibition “Korean Treasures: Collected, Cherished, Shared,” featuring over 330 works from the late Lee Kun-hee’s donated collection, opened on March 15 at the Freer|Sackler (National Museum of Asian Art) in Washington, D.C. The show brings 172 items (297 pieces) from the National Museum of Korea—including seven national treasures and 15 important cultural properties—and 24 modern and contemporary works from the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art. Highlights include Jeong Seon’s national treasure Inwangjesaekdo (인왕제색도) on display in the U.S. for the first time. The tour was briefly delayed by a U.S. federal government shutdown but resumed and will travel to Chicago (Mar–Jul 2025) and the British Museum in London (Sep 2025–Jan 2027). Korean museum directors say the exhibition aims to share Korea’s artistic heritage and K-culture origins with global audiences.
