OpenAI is piloting a new 'group chat' feature for ChatGPT in South Korea, allowing up to 20 people to collaborate with the AI in a single conversation. Users can invite friends, family, or colleagues via a chat link to plan trips, compare destinations, create itineraries and checklists, or brainstorm ideas together. Participants can call on 'ChatGPT' in the group to get responses, react with emojis, and generate profile pictures. The feature keeps personal memory separate from shared group chats and includes safety measures for under-18 users and parental controls. OpenAI says this pilot — also launched in countries like Japan, New Zealand, and Taiwan — marks a step toward expanding ChatGPT into social and messenger-style use cases, and the company will refine the service based on feedback from initial countries.
