Myeongryundang’s charcoal pork rib franchise, Myeongryun Jinsa Galbi, is continuing a nationwide donation relay involving about 550 franchise locations. Since September the chain has held charity bazaars across major regions—starting in Seoul/Gyeonggi and expanding to Daejeon/Chungcheong, Gwangju/Jeolla, Daegu/Gyeongbuk, Gangwon and Jeju—raising funds for local causes. Proceeds from events and collections were recently handed to World Vision to support youths preparing for independent living. The brand’s social contribution efforts began in 2019 and have grown through voluntary participation by franchise owners. An internal volunteer group, “Myeongryun Sharing Volunteer Team” (a company volunteer corps), including head office staff, franchisees and brand ambassadors, engages in activities like meal support for solitary seniors, free meal service, marine debris cleanups, coal briquette donations, and distributing galbi lunchboxes to people in boarding-house neighborhoods. The “donation relay” campaign lets participating stores offer customer discounts and donate half of that day’s sales to the community; the head office covers the discount cost and staffing. The campaign’s cumulative donations have reached ₩185,912,384, and the company also has a 10-year, ₩3 billion sponsorship agreement with NGO World Vision. Company officials say the relay symbolizes mutual growth between franchisor and franchisees and reflects the brand’s commitment to social responsibility.
