Seoul’s contemporary dance troupe The Move Art Company presents a new work, 'A White Dream Cut by the Wind,' at Sogang University’s Merry Hall from Dec. 4–6. Inspired by the folk ritual 'neokjeon' (a traditional Korean rite to console the spirits of the dead), the piece explores loss and recovery through contemporary movement. Drawing on Shim Woo-seong’s 'neokjeon dance,' choreographer and artistic director Yoon Seong-eun uses wind as a metaphor, alternating gentle and violent physical language to evoke memory and emotional cycles. The three-part performance moves from 'Past'—using hanji (traditional Korean paper) with lighting and projection to create shadows and inner spirits—to 'Present,' where dancers embody personal stories of life, death, longing and anger with props like neokjeon dolls, shamanic cloths, mandalas, flowers and bells, and finally to 'Future,' portraying communal spirits and healing as costumes and objects intertwine and movement, light and wind converge to a calm resolution. Performers include Kim Ji-min, Kwon A-rim, Jung Jin-hyung and others, with music direction by Kim Ju-heon and Jung Jin-hyung and dramaturgy by Im Young-wook. The Move Art Company focuses on genre-fusing performances across dance, theatre and media art.
