The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has designated six scenic "tourist roads" to promote regional tourism and local economies. The chosen routes span the country: Jeju’s Gujwa Sumbi Coastal Road (24.7 km) highlighting dramatic east coast views and haenyeo (female freedivers) culture; Gyeongnam’s Jirisan Scenic Road (59.5 km) along Jirisan mountain with stops like Odojae and Sangnim Park; Jeonbuk’s Muju Gucheondong Nature Trail (12.0 km) linking to Deogyusan National Park; Chungbuk’s Jecheon Cheongpung Road (12.9 km) circling scenic Cheongpung Lake; Jeonnam’s Baekri Seomseom Road (23.0 km) connecting 11 bridges and 10 islands along the southern coast; and Gangwon’s Byeol Gureum Road (100.0 km) from Jeongseon to Samcheok that ties cultural sites and natural attractions such as Hwaam Cave and Taebaek Mountain. The tourism-road system, introduced last October, allows road authorities to apply for official designation after national evaluation. The ministry said it will continue selecting and improving such routes, enhancing surrounding facilities to create memorable drive experiences.
