Korean Musical Association Welcomes Tougher Anti-Scalping 'Three Bills'

The Korea Musical Association on Nov. 12 welcomed the government and ruling party’s push for so-called 'anti-scalping three bills' to strengthen penalties for reselling performance and sports tickets. The association said previous performance law changes were largely symbolic and lacked concrete punishments, so new measures such as punitive fines and whistleblower rewards are expected to be effective. The Culture Ministry reported anti-scalping measures to the Cabinet, and the ruling Democratic Party plans revisions to the Performances Act, National Sports Promotion Act, and Sports Facilities Act to ban all illicit ticket sales and seize gains regardless of macro (automated ticket-buying program) use. The association also urged lawmakers to quickly pass a musical industry promotion bill to support future growth while eliminating abuses.
