Successful Global BBQ Festival; Hongseong Weekend Food Festivities

Hongseong, Chungcheongnam-do will host a weekend of local food events on Nov. 15–16. The 100-year-old Gwangcheon Cultural Market will hold the ‘Hongseong Baekban Festa’ featuring traditional baekban (Korean set meal) side dishes representing 12 local scenic spots, interactive experiences like grilled seaweed (gim-gui) and a global gimbap pop-up store, plus baekban cooking classes. A photo and video exhibition at the market will showcase Gwangcheon’s century-long history. On the 16th the ‘Mikam City Hongseong Cooking Contest’ will present 10 main-dish and 10 dessert teams using Hongseong specialties; visitors can taste entries and vote for favorites. On the 15th at 4 PM the ‘4th Night Market Reviving Alleys (Golmok Night Market)’ in the old downtown offers a mini BBQ festival, local produce food booths, craft workshops by local brands, and collaborative arts performances with Seoul artists.
