Ferrero Rocher shifts Korea supply from Italy to China amid rising cocoa costs

Premium chocolate brand Ferrero Rocher has started supplying South Korea with products made in China instead of Italy. Distributor Maeil Dairies recently began distributing finished chocolates produced at a Chinese facility; online listings now show China as the country of origin. Some convenience stores and large supermarkets still sell remaining Italian-stock items alongside newly arrived Chinese-made products, but full replacement by Chinese-made stock is likely once Italian inventory runs out. The change is seen as a global cost-cutting move as international cocoa prices surge due to poor harvests and supply shortages. However, there are concerns this shift could damage the brand’s image in Korea, where it has long been marketed as an authentic Italian premium chocolate.
