A visitor reported to Seoul city that a bear at Seoul Children’s Grand Park zoo has been repeatedly banging its head against a wall, raising concerns about stereotypic behavior linked to severe stress. The park acknowledged that the predator enclosures ("맹수마을") were remodeled in 2009 with visitor convenience prioritized over animal welfare, making it difficult to provide ideal living conditions. Officials said they are running enrichment programs, positive reinforcement training, special treats, and regular health checks to reduce such behaviors, but noted stereotypies are hard to eliminate once established. The park plans to accelerate a long‑planned full renovation to transform the zoo into a child‑education focused ecological zoo where animals can be happier.
