Domo’s original music theatre piece “Sonakbi: Cheo-u” runs in Jeonju from the 11th–13th at the Korea Traditional Culture Center’s Gongryuyeon Hall. The production is a cooperative project between Chuncheon Cultural Foundation and Jeonju Cultural Foundation, part of a regional cultural exchange initiative that promotes intercity artistic collaboration. Inspired by Kim Yujeong’s short story “Sonakbi” and weaving characters from Lee Sang’s “Wings” and Kim Dong-in’s “Potato,” the play depicts harsh poverty in early 1900s Korea, including themes of prostitution and fractured family life, yet conveys the ironic message that love still must exist. The work has earned major awards (including the 2014 Gangwon Theatre Festival Grand Prize and a national theatre award) and was invited to the 2023 Cebu International Theatre Festival. Chuncheon Cultural Foundation says the tour will broaden audiences and strengthen sustainable regional partnerships. Tickets and details are available on the Chuncheon Cultural Foundation website (cccf.or.kr).
