Cellist Yoo-bin Lee Wins the Yoon Isang International Music Competition

Yoo-bin Lee (25) took first place in the cello category at this year’s Yoon Isang International Music Competition, performing Shostakovich’s Cello Concerto No. 1 with orchestra. Second place went to Lee Jae-ri (16), third to Andrew Ilhoon Byun (27, Canada), and fourth to Choi Ah-hyun (19). Launched in 2003 to honor composer Yoon Isang (1917–1995) and discover new talent, the competition rotates annually among cello, piano, and violin. Past winners include pianist Lim Yun-chan (2019) and cellist Han Jae-min (2022). Andrew Ilhoon Byun also received the special Yoon Isang Prize for his performance of Yoon’s “Space I for Cello and Piano” (윤이상특별상).
