Uijeongbu City in Gyeonggi Province hosted the 18th annual Budae-jjigae Festival on November 8–9 along the Budae-jjigae Street, celebrating the city’s signature dish, budae-jjigae (a Korean army-base stew combining ham, sausages, ramen, kimchi and other ingredients). Organized by Uijeongbu Urban Corporation and the Uijeongbu Budae-jjigae Association, the food-focused festival featured free tastings by restaurants, stage performances, a picnic zone, prize draws, consumer events, experience booths and a flea market. The city promoted recovery-focused consumer coupons at the venue and offered a 1,000-won discount on budae-jjigae over the two days to boost spending and support local businesses. A cooking contest with five teams showcased creative takes on budae-jjigae. Mayor Kim Dong-geun said the festival has become a defining culinary event for Uijeongbu and pledged continued efforts to link it with tourism and local economic revival.
