The Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Industrial Technology Association selected two winners for the November Korea Engineer Award: Seong-gyu Lee, a researcher at LG Chem, and Chul-soo Lee, CEO of UNDI. Seong-gyu Lee developed the world’s first continuous process for an eco-friendly plasticizer and independently created and commercialized a semiconductor-grade cleaning agent (IPA) process, contributing to petrochemical innovation. Chul-soo Lee applied switching magnetic technology to enable precise automatic tool changes for wireless robotic tools, overcoming limits of permanent magnets and electromagnets and achieving low power consumption and strong magnetic force; his company holds multiple patents and won prior awards. The Korea Engineer Award recognizes engineers who advance industrial technology; winners receive the minister’s award and a cash prize. The Ministry plans to continue supporting science and industry collaboration to strengthen national competitiveness. (IPA: isopropyl alcohol, a semiconductor cleaning solvent)
