Seoul is hosting a series of public events in November to showcase the city’s intangible cultural heritage. On Nov. 11, a seminar on traditional military martial arts (전통군영무예 — martial skills practiced by elite soldiers who defended Joseon-era Hanyang) will be held at the Seoul Museum of History, followed by a public demonstration at Namsangol Hanok Village. The same day, a joint exhibition by master dancheong (단청장 — traditional architectural painting used to protect and decorate wooden buildings) artisans opens at the village’s Traditional Craft Center and runs through Dec. 14. On Nov. 12, a combined exhibition of Seoul’s intangible heritage embroidery (자수장), knotting (매듭장), and jade craft (옥장 — techniques for working with jade) will be presented at the Seoul Intangible Heritage Education Exhibition Hall, featuring pieces such as a white jade phoenix incense burner. Officials say the events aim to share Korea’s unique beauty and support traditional culture as a creative force globally.
