Soprano Lim Sun-hye celebrates 25 years since her international debut after a chance break in 1999 when she stepped in for a concert led by maestro Philippe Herreweghe. Building a distinguished career as a Baroque and early-music specialist—performing works by Bach, Handel, Haydn and Mozart—Lim has earned nicknames like “early-music diva” and appeared on over 30 albums. She is also acclaimed for art song repertoire (art songs combine poetry and music) and has recorded award-winning albums of German Lieder (art songs in German). Returning to Korea for a recital in Seoul as part of the M Classic Festival, Lim plans a program of Romantic serenades and Korean art songs, including new arrangements of pansori (a traditional Korean musical narrative) material. Deeply committed to introducing Korean gayo (Korean art songs) abroad, she hopes to release a Korean art song album on an international label to reach wider audiences.
