Known as the “Top of Europe,” Jungfraujoch is famous not for being the highest mountain but for hosting the world’s highest-altitude train station. From Interlaken visitors reach the 3,454 m summit by a sequence of train and gondola rides, making the site accessible even for strollers and wheelchairs. The Sphinx Observatory (a high viewing platform) at about 3,571 m offers sweeping views of the Aletsch Glacier (UNESCO World Heritage), the Eiger, and the Jungfrau peaks. Attractions include an exhibition about the historic Jungfraubahn railway built from 1869–1912, an ice tunnel and maze, sledding and zipline on the snow. Visitors should be cautious of altitude sickness. Luxury watch shops on the platform sell high-end Swiss watches (some reportedly over 10 million KRW), while many tourists instead buy chocolate. For a relaxed visit, the Crystal restaurant serves traditional Swiss dishes like fondue, raclette, and rösti (Swiss potato dish) with glacier views and surprisingly good food; staff even greet Korean guests with friendly Korean phrases.
