The Namwon Municipal Gim Byung-jong Art Museum, opened in 2018, is a cultural complex dedicated to Namwon-born painter Gim Byung-jong. Designed by architect Jo Byung-soo to make architecture and art resonate, the building uses concrete, glass and natural light to create changing moods throughout the day. A skylit “corridor of light” lets visitors experience the passage of time as shadows lengthen and shift; high-ceilinged galleries and long walls provide a calm backdrop for Gim’s vivid series like “Song of Life.” Outside, a riverside viewpoint connects the artworks’ themes of nature, life and cycles to the surrounding landscape, so the museum itself becomes part of the art. The museum aims not just to display paintings but to let structure, light and wind form a living canvas that reinterprets the traditional city of Namwon in a modern language. (천창: skylight)
