K-pop star and producer J.Y. Park (Park Jin-young) explained on MBC’s Radio Star why he accepted the co-chair position of the Presidential Committee on Popular Culture Exchange. He said he initially declined several times but ultimately agreed to serve in a part-time (non-resident) capacity so he could continue performing and appear on TV. Park described his political stance as independent: endorsing some progressive policies to protect ordinary people under capitalism, while acknowledging conservative measures are needed to keep capital from fleeing. He emphasized balanced, situational policymaking and declared he does not belong to either the progressive or conservative camp. Although the committee role carries minister-level (ministerial) protocol, Park said he turned down the formal honors.
