The Natural History Museum in London hosted the prestigious 'Wildlife Photographer of the Year' contest, drawing over 60,000 entries from 113 countries. The overall winner was South African photographer Wim van den Heever for 'Visitor to the Ghost Town,' a nighttime shot of a rare brown hyena appearing in front of an abandoned house in a former mining village in Namibia. Brown hyenas are uncommon and primarily nocturnal, so they are rarely seen by people. Awards were given across 19 categories. (Source: Monthly San, November issue)
