South Korea’s consumer agency tested running jackets from eight major sports brands and found Nike’s "Repel Mylar" offered the best value for money. The study evaluated warmth (body-heat retention), breathability (air permeability), water repellency, durability, and safety (harmful substances). Four jackets—including Nike, Descente, Andar, and Under Armour—rated “good” for warmth; none were rated “excellent” but all improved insulation by at least 73% over a short-sleeve shirt. New Balance, Adidas, and Jeximix scored “excellent” in breathability. All eight showed very good water repellency before washing, but repellency declined for some (New Balance, Descente, Adidas, Under Armour) after five washes. Durability tests (zippers, pilling, discoloration) and chemical safety (formaldehyde, arylamines, PFOA/PFOS) passed for all products. Some jackets used recycled fabrics. The agency advised choosing jackets according to weather (warmth vs. ventilation), using proper detergents (no fabric softener) to preserve functionality, and noted inconsistent laundry-care labels—three items required hand wash despite most consumers using machines. Overall, Nike’s Repel Mylar balanced warmth, breathability, and post-wash water resistance at a lower price, earning it the top cost-performance ranking.
