Half of Running Jackets Lose Water-Repellency After Washing, Consumer Agency FindsCreatrip Team
a month ago
South Korea’s Consumer Agency tested eight popular running jackets for water-repellency (발수성) and other performance after five washes. All eight started at the top water-repellency grade (5), but four—New Balance UNI Sport Essential, DESCENTE Running Warm-up, Adidas Adizero Essential, and Under Armour UA Launch Hood—fell to grade 3 after washing. The other four—Nike Repel Mylar, Andar Clear Feather, Xexymix RX Air Light, and FILA PERTEX—kept grade 5. Thermal retention (체온 유지성) was relatively good in Nike, DESCENTE, Andar, and Under Armour, while air permeability (공기투과도) was higher in New Balance, Adidas, and Xexymix, helping sweat evaporation. Prices ranged from 89,000 to 199,000 won; the Consumer Agency highlighted Nike Repel Mylar (115,000 won) as a cost-effective choice for maintaining both thermal and breathability performance and sustained water-repellency after washing. The agency advised buyers to compare functionality, durability, and price based on their needs.
