Renowned French violinist Augustin Dumay will perform the complete Brahms violin sonatas with pianist Clara Min at Seoul Arts Center Concert Hall on November 14 at 7:30 PM. Hailed as one of today’s great violinists, Dumay gained fame collaborating with legends such as Yehudi Menuhin and Herbert von Karajan and has recorded the Brahms sonatas three times (1978, 1992, 2014). The Guardian praised his 2014 recording as a lasting treasure. A prodigy, he entered the Paris Conservatory (파리국립고등음악원) at age 10 and won top honors at 13; Karajan invited him to perform with the Berlin Philharmonic after hearing him in a studio. Dumay has appeared with leading orchestras worldwide, won major awards including the Gramophone Award, serves as conductor and music director of the Kansai Philharmonic (간사이 필하모닉 오케스트라), and teaches at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel. He plays a 1743 Guarneri del Gesù once used by Leonid Kogan. Pianist Clara Min, based in New York and Paris, is celebrated for her poetic musical voice and is founder/artistic director of the international platform Classical Bridge. Brahms’s three sonatas trace emotional life from youthful lyricism to autumnal reflection; the duo’s performance promises a profound, time-deepened musical experience.
