Hyundai Green Food Leads Korea in Senior-Friendly Certified FoodsCreatrip Team
a month ago
Hyundai Green Food, part of Hyundai Department Store Group, produces and sells the largest range of government-certified senior-friendly foods in South Korea. The company offers 16 products, about 20% of the 85 government-designated items. Senior-friendly foods are specially processed to adjust texture (물성) and form for easier chewing, swallowing and digestion; they are certified by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries after review by the Korea Food Industry Cluster Promotion Institute. The foods are classified into three texture levels: Level 1 can be eaten with teeth, Level 2 can be eaten with the gums, and Level 3 can be consumed with the tongue. Hyundai Green Food is the only domestic producer selling products in all three levels—6 items in Level 1, 7 in Level 2 (notably producing 7 of the 8 nationally certified Level 2 items), and 3 in Level 3. The company plans to introduce the country’s first senior-friendly lunchbox (dosirak) (도시락) combining rice, side dishes and soup, currently under review, and aims to double its product lineup to about 30 items within three years. Hyundai Green Food says developing senior-friendly foods is vital as dental issues in older adults can hinder balanced nutrition and overall health, and the company intends to expand offerings tailored by age and lifestyle.
