Run-trip—combining running and travel—is trending among Korea’s MZ generation. Agoda data shows Tokyo is the top overseas marathon destination for Korean travelers, followed by Sydney, New York, Taipei, and Athens. Searches for accommodations near Tokyo, Sydney and New York marathons rose sharply, helped by these cities hosting Abbott World Marathon Majors races and celebrity participation. NewJeans’ Daniel ran the Sydney Marathon and TV personality Kian84 finished the New York Marathon, sparking interest on social media. In Asia, Taipei Marathon draws over 20,000 participants annually, while the Athens Marathon is prized for its historic Olympic course. Domestically, Seoul leads as Korea’s favorite marathon travel spot with 118 events last year, followed by Gyeongju (famous for its historic sites) and rapidly growing Daegu. Agoda’s Northeast Asia head says running events are becoming a new travel motivator for young people.
