Artist Shin So-young (55) opens a solo exhibition “The Wings of Life” from Nov. 5–17 at Gallery Nut in Samcheong-dong, Seoul. The show, part of the gallery’s Sia Art Center invitational, centers on the symbolic motif of wings that the artist has explored for over 30 years. In her work, layered brushstrokes form feathers that symbolize the passage of time; paired wings forming heart shapes signify solidarity and love. The exhibition features series including ‘Wings’ (visualizing inner hope and challenge), ‘Unfurl Your Wings’ (encouraging dreams and comforting with love), ‘Couples’ (two different beings finding happiness), and ‘Shapes of the Heart’ (nurturing hope). Shin trained in painting at Sookmyung Women’s University and its graduate school, and works across sculpture, animation, digital art and painting. She has taught digital art and painting at Seoul National University of Science and Technology, Sejong University, and Sookmyung, and has held 11 solo shows and participated in over 120 group exhibitions and art fairs; her works are in collections such as Moran Museum and Moonshin Museum. (Samcheong-dong: a historic neighborhood in central Seoul known for galleries and cafes.)
