Samyang Foods has relaunched a beef-tallow (uji) fried instant noodle called 'Samyang 1963,' marking its first return to uji-based oil since the 1989 'uji scandal' that damaged the company’s reputation. The new product, unveiled at a launch event in Myeong-dong, Seoul, was presented as a symbolic recovery: an AI-restored video appearance of the late founder and the revival of the company motto 'shiksokpyeongcheon' (식족평천 — "when people are fed, there is peace") framed the moment. 'Samyang 1963' uses a 'golden blend oil' of beef tallow and palm oil to fry the noodles and features a broth made from beef, bone broth, and chicken, with cheongyang chili for heat. The name references Samyang’s original 1963 launch; the product is priced at 1,538 KRW. Company leaders said the release represents healing from the past and a reaffirmation of Samyang’s authentic flavor roots after decades of using palm oil following the 1989 controversy.
