The Gyeongju National Museum opened general admission for a special exhibition bringing together all six Silla gold crowns ever found in Korea. Visitors queued early to see the 20 showcased artifacts that distill Silla’s golden culture, including the crowns and six gold belts displayed together for the first time. Among the pieces are the Geumgwanchong crown (found in 1921 at Noseo-dong), Geumryeongchong crown with thin gold bands and blue glass beads, Seobongchong crown featuring a round inner cap and three bird motifs, and the Hwangnamdaechong crown thought to be one of the earliest. The Cheonmachong crown—whose replica was recently presented to former US President Donald Trump—appears near the end of the exhibit; Cheonmachong’s 1973 excavation yielded some 11,000 artifacts and marked a major post-liberation archaeological effort. The exhibition includes seven national treasures and seven treasures, and runs through December 14. (maripgan: a Silla royal title)
