Harmony of Tradition and Innovation Resonates in GangwonCreatrip Team

The Daegwallyeong Music Festival’s “Four Colors” concert was held at KT&G Sangsangmadang Sound Hall in Chuncheon. Performers blended traditional Korean instruments with modern genres to cross cultural and musical borders. “Cello-Gayageum” featured a dialog between cello and gayageum (traditional Korean zither), performing pieces like “Extraordinary Cowboy,” “Fisherman,” and “Sahu Segye” using a 25-string modified gayageum for varied tones. The duo used percussive techniques to create dynamic sounds and closed with an encore, “I Saw a Wolf (Jubleruh).” The group Bando delivered jazz-infused, highly improvisational sets—“East Sea,” “Fog,” and “Southern Island”—mixing traditional timbres with psychedelic sensibilities. Members showcased distinct roles: Hwang Jin-ah’s geometric geomungo (traditional Korean zither) provided weight, saxophonist Kim Seong-wan added jazz improvisation, guitarist Lee Si-mun contributed intense riffs, and drummer Kim Su-jun carried the rhythm, resulting in a bold fusion of tradition and new sounds.
