During a recent summit between President Lee Jae-myung and Chinese President Xi Jinping at the National Gyeongju Museum, Korea proposed staging a large-scale K-pop concert in Beijing. Park Jin-young, head of the Pop Culture Exchange Committee, discussed the idea with Xi, who responded positively, raising hopes for lifting the so-called 'Hanhan-ryeong' (restrictions on Korean cultural content in China). The industry expects renewed access to the Chinese market could boost K-content exports and live performances, benefiting major producers like Studio Dragon and increasing revenues from sales of existing content and intellectual property (IP). Analysts note China remains a separate market from global OTT platforms, offering additional sales opportunities that could generate significant revenue if reopening proceeds.
