South Korea and Türkiye, long called “brother nations,” continue to deepen ties through shared history, warmth, and cultural exchange. Seoul’s Yeouido Ankara House (Ankara House), created in 1971 to commemorate a sister-city relationship with Ankara, displays traditional Turkish clothing, handicrafts, and household items as a symbolic cultural bridge. In September, the Türkiye Fountain in Olympic Park—gifted after the 1988 Seoul Olympics—was reactivated after 36 years, symbolizing the ongoing friendship. Türkiye celebrated the 102nd anniversary of its republic in Seoul with an event hosted by its embassy, attended by diplomats and cultural leaders. Ambassadors emphasized the close emotional bond—comparable to Korea’s “jeong (정)” and Türkiye’s “gönül bağı (교뉼 바으)”—and vowed to strengthen cultural and tourism ties. Türkiye, spanning Europe and Asia with famous sites like Istanbul, Cappadocia, and Antalya, aims to attract more Korean visitors by expanding cultural and tourism cooperation.
