Korean Pop Concert Talk with Xi Called Polite Exchange, Not Concrete PlanCreatrip Team
a month ago
The Korea-China Popular Culture Exchange Committee said on Nov. 2 that reports claiming Chinese President Xi Jinping agreed to a large concert by a Korean singer in Beijing during a recent summit dinner are overblown. The committee described the brief remark between Xi and committee co-chair Park Jin-young (also known as J.Y. Park) as a polite, general comment (덕담) shared during formal diplomatic greetings, not a firm commitment. While officials warn against reading too much into the moment, they expressed hope that the warmer atmosphere from the summit could lead to more active cultural exchanges and coordination at the working level. The comment followed social media claims by a ruling party lawmaker that Xi asked Foreign Minister Wang Yi to arrange the performance, and government security officials later said there was agreement in principle to promote cultural cooperation.
